An official welcome to Scales Nature Park...
Posted by Jeff Hathaway on March 27, 2010 at 12:01 PM
The winter has been pretty busy, and not just with school programs! The biggest news is that Scales Nature Park is now officially open to the public, and has taken its place as a project partner. Scales Nature Park is an offshoot of Sciensational Sssnakes!!, and has been under development for the last eight years. It has been a long, slow process, and we're glad to see it operational! Located just outside Orillia, the park is the physical home base for Sciensational Sssnakes!!, the Reptiles at Risk on the Road project, and all of the animals! There is a new website for the park, accessible by the links at the top of this page.
We have also finished the creation of various eduational materials, including curriculum linked activities for grades 1 though 8, colour guides to Ontario's snakes and turtles, and a guide to helping reptiles and amphibians. These are all available on the Scales Nature Park website as downloads in the Resources section, and we hope to have them up on this page soon as well.
We have big plans for the upcoming season, though we are still waiting on some of our funding commitments for the project. We hope to make some annoucements soon about our plans, so stay tuned! They should be interesting!
