So Long, 2006

Well, the reptiles at risk on the road project is wrapped up for 2006! We did deliver programs to approximately 900 students in Essex County earlier this month. The data collection and analysis is still underway, and we hope to have some results early in 2007.
I'd like to take a moment to recap some of the year's happenings:
- 69 programs conducted, directly reaching ~6400 participants
- the first-ever Sciensational Sssnakes!! programs conducted outside of Ontario
- 2 TV appearances, 3 radio interviews, and numerous local news stories
- a possible range extension for the prairie skink, based upon credible reports from a participant
- assisting with prairie skink research
- seeing a horned lizard, bullsnake, and prairie rattlesnake in the wild, firsts for all of us!
It was great to see some amazing parts of Canada and meet some really interesting people! We're hopeful that our quest for additional funding will be successful and we will be able to continue with the eastern Canada phase of the project in 2007.

One more week will finish off the program portion of the Reptiles at Risk on the Road project for 2006! Next week, we will be visiting seven schools in southern Essex County, one of the most important areas of Canada for species at risk reptiles!
