T-Rex Discovery Centre

In 1991, a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton was discovered near East End, Saskatchewan. It was subsequently excavated by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, and was a very significant find. Perhaps even more significant is that East End, a fairly small town, managed to raise $1.5 million dollars towards the construction of an educational facility all about the T-rex (now named Scotty) and other dinosaurs.
It really is a great facility, and it was really nice to get a chance to tour it. Some pictures are up in the gallery, one is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/scisnake/217313318/ but there are several. We did a program in the evening to a small but enthusiastic crowd, and then spent some money in the gift shop on cool dinosaur stuff! I got some presents for my niece and nephew- I hear he's just starting the typical childhood dinosaur craze, which I'm happy to encourage! I remember telling people I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was in Grade 1- you never know where such dreams can lead! On our way back to Val Marie, we found our first live Plains Garter Snake crossing the road. We moved it out of harm's way (just off the road into the ditch on the other side), but did get some pictures of it first, of course!
