Gray Wolf
Posted by Jeff Hathaway on July 21, 2006 at 5:30 PM

We're westbound on Hwy. 17, near Nipigon. Today is a day off for us! No shows, that is, but still lots of driving and admin stuff to do. However we planned to stop and fish for brook trout along the way.

So far though, no brook trout to be found, even at the little creek I fished at in 2004. This beautiful little stream had a beaver pond near the highway that harboured quite a few nice trout. Things change, however, and this time around the old beaver is a nicely grown up meadow! No doubt there a lots of trout around in the area, but don't really have that much time to go out looking for them. Megan knows another spot to try after lunch, so maybe that will work out.

The highlight of the day was a gray wolf which wandered across the highway, as I was walking back to the van. It was about 30 metres from me- of course, I didn't have the camera! The girls were asleep in the van, and were sad that they missed seeing the wolf, but then, right on cue, it walked back across the highway just in front of the van. Megan was able to snap this picture of it!

We're at Megan's place tonight; looking forward to a nice dinner and high speed web access!
